Kitchen fitters in South London
Your new kitchen is sitting in boxes. We turn it into a room you can cook in, with the wiring, pipework, worktops and tiling done by the same team.
Kitchen installation in South London that doesn’t stop at the units
It’s always a fun part of the process to design and buy your new kitchen. Not everyone know that what usually happens next is less fun.
The retailer delivers 30-odd boxes to your hallway in Balham or Beckenham. The fitter they recommend will hang the cabinets, but the sockets, the gas, the sink, the splashback and the old kitchen are somebody else’s problem. Yours, in most cases.
So you end up phoning round for an electrician, a plumber and a tiler, and trying to line them up in the right order. One of them is booked for three weeks. Meanwhile you’re washing up in the bath.
We work the other way round. Urban Kitchens quotes for the whole job, then our fitters run it start to finish, bringing in our own electricians and plumbers when the job needs them. You get one price, one start date and one person to call. We’re definitely not the cheapest way to get cabinets on a wall. But the kitchen is finished when we leave. So you can actually start using it.
What a typical installation week looks like
- Day 1The old kitchen comes out and goes in our van. We check the walls, floor and existing pipework against your new layout.
- Day 2Sockets, circuits and pipes are moved to where the new units need them. Damaged plaster gets patched.
- Days 3–4Units go in level and square. Laminate and wood worktops are cut and fitted on site. Stone and quartz get templated.
- Day 5Sink, tap and appliances connected. Splashback on, doors adjusted, and we walk round the kitchen with you before we leave.
Smaller kitchens can be quicker. Stone worktops add a wait while they’re made, and freshly levelled walls need a couple of days to dry before a splashback goes on. We’ll tell you your real timeline when we quote.
Kitchen installation services across South London
Most people book the full fitted kitchen installation. Some only need one piece, like worktops cut and fitted, or the old kitchen taken away. Either’s fine. Here’s how the work breaks down.
Before the units go in
- Old kitchen stripped out and taken away, tiles included
- Electrics and plumbing moved to suit the new layout
- Walls levelled and plastered so worktops and panels sit tight
- Pipes boxed in where they’d otherwise show
Fitting the kitchen
- Base, wall and tall units fitted and adjusted
- Worktops in laminate, wood, quartz or stone
- Sinks and taps, including boiling-water taps and filters
- Appliances connected, with gas hobs done by a Gas Safe engineer
Finishing off
- Tiled, glass or stone splashbacks
- Kitchen flooring, laid before or after the units
- Walls and ceiling painted
- One project manager keeping the trades in order

What kitchen fitting costs in South London
The honest answer is that it depends on how much of the job you hand to us. Fitting units into a room that’s already prepared sits at the lower end. Taking out an old kitchen, moving the sink, adding circuits, fitting stone worktops and tiling the splashback all add to it.
Older houses can add a bit too. A Victorian wall that needs levelling before a splashback goes on is a different job to a flat new-build wall. We’d rather spot that at the survey than halfway through.
Whatever it comes to, you get the figure in writing before we start, and it doesn’t move unless you ask for something extra.
Typical installation cost
That’s for the installation work. The kitchen itself, worktop materials and appliances are on top.
Bought from Howdens, Wren or IKEA? We’ll fit it
Most of the kitchens we fit in South London were ordered from one of the big retailers. We don’t sell kitchens any more, so we’ve no reason to steer you towards one brand. We’ve just fitted enough of each to know where they’re fiddly. Pick yours for the details.
German kitchens too, like Häcker, Schüller, Nolte, Leicht and Rotpunkt, as well as Italian and bespoke kitchens. Not on the list? Ask anyway. The full list is on our kitchen brands page.
South London homes: what we plan for
A kitchen fit in a Clapham terrace and one in a Nine Elms tower are almost different jobs. These are the things that come up most south of the river.
Walls that aren’t straight
Victorian and Edwardian houses in Clapham, Brixton, Herne Hill, Balham and Brockley rarely have a true wall or a level floor. Worktops and splashbacks show every wobble. So we check with a level at the survey, and if a wall needs plastering first, it goes in the quote rather than turning up as an extra.
Kitchen-diners in extensions
Side-return extensions are everywhere in South London. If your builder is still on site, bring us in before their first fix. It’s much easier to put a socket or a waste pipe in the right place than to move it once the plaster’s on.
Managed blocks and new-builds
Buildings at Nine Elms, Battersea, Vauxhall and Greenwich Peninsula usually want contractors registered, a loading bay booked and a service lift reserved. Give us the building manager’s details and we’ll sort the paperwork with them.
Taking out a wall
In the 1930s semis around Croydon, Bromley, Sutton and Morden, a lot of people knock the kitchen through to the dining room. That part is a job for a builder, and usually a structural engineer. We can plan the kitchen layout with you beforehand and pick up once the room is ready.
Parking
Much of Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth is controlled parking. We might ask you for visitor permits or a bay suspension. Further out it’s rarely an issue. Either way, any parking cost is in the quote.
Conservation areas and listed homes
Dulwich, Clapham Old Town, Greenwich and Blackheath have a lot of protected houses. A new kitchen inside the house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are the exception, so check with your council first and we’ll work to whatever they approve.
Getting a quote
No home visit needed to get started. Most quotes begin on WhatsApp.
- Send us the detailsYour postcode, the kitchen plan or order, the brand, a few photos of the room as it is now, and what you’d like us to do.
- Get a written priceFor straightforward jobs we can quote from that. If the walls or pipework need a proper look, we’ll arrange a survey first.
- Pick a start dateWe book around your kitchen delivery and check every box when it arrives, so missing or damaged parts get sorted before fitting day.
Why use an independent kitchen fitter?
Retailers’ own installers are often booked weeks out, and many only cover the cabinets. That leaves the gas, electrics, splashback and making good for you to sort. It’s fine if you’ve got trades you trust. Most people don’t.
We’ve been fitting kitchens and furniture in London homes since 2012. Our two fitting teams run their own jobs, and we work with our own regular electricians, plumbers and Gas Safe engineers, so nobody’s meeting for the first time on your kitchen floor.
If something we fitted goes wrong within 12 months, like a unit dropping out of level, a hinge working loose or a worktop joint opening up, we come back and fix it at no cost. We’re in Chiswick, at The LightBox on Power Road, W4, just over the river from Barnes and Putney. You’re welcome to come in and talk through your plans.

Questions South London customers ask
Which parts of South London do you cover?
All of it. Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth, Lewisham, Greenwich, Merton, Croydon, Bromley, Sutton and Kingston, plus Barnes, Richmond, Bexleyheath and the Surrey border. Send us your postcode if you’re not sure.
What’s included in a full kitchen installation?
Everything between “kitchen delivered” and “kitchen working”. Strip-out and disposal of the old one, electrics and plumbing, wall preparation, units, worktops, sink and appliances, splashback, flooring and decorating. You can drop any part you’ve already got covered.
I ordered my kitchen from Howdens, Wren or IKEA. Can you fit it?
Yes. That’s most of what we do. We also fit Magnet, Wickes, DIY Kitchens, B&Q, Benchmarx and German, Italian and bespoke kitchens.
How much does kitchen fitting cost in South London?
Most of our installations come to between £2,000 and £6,000 for the labour and trades. A simple fit of the units sits at the lower end. Removing the old kitchen, moving electrics and plumbing, fitting worktops and tiling a splashback push it higher. The kitchen itself is separate. You get a written price before anything starts.
How long will I be without a kitchen?
Usually 3 to 7 days on site. Stone worktops and wall plastering can stretch that, because one needs making and the other needs drying. We’ll give you a realistic schedule with the quote, and where we can, we’ll get the sink working early so you’ve got water.
How soon can you start?
We’re normally booked 2 to 6 weeks ahead. Tell us your delivery date as soon as you have it and we’ll fit around it.
My fitter has left the job half-finished. Can you take over?
Yes, and it happens more than you’d think. Send us photos or a short video of where things are, plus what’s already on site. We’ll tell you what’s left to do, what it costs and how quickly we can get you a working kitchen.
Do you connect gas hobs?
Yes. Gas work is done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and we can arrange the gas safety certificate as well. If you’ve already got your own engineer, that’s fine too. We’ll leave the hob cut out and ready.
Do the walls need preparing before a splashback goes on?
Often, yes, especially where old tiles have come off. Splashback panels and tiles need a flat, sound wall to stay put. We level the wall, give it a couple of days to dry, then fit. We won’t fit worktops before wall work is done either, because plaster and dust can mark them and the joint to the wall ends up wrong.
I live in a managed block with a concierge. What do you need from me?
The building’s rules and the managing agent’s contact. Most blocks want contractors registered, a loading bay or service lift booked, and some paperwork before work starts. We’ll handle that with them directly.
Do you take the old kitchen away?
Yes, units, worktops and tiles. It all leaves with us, so there’s no skip to book on the street.
Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. Our fitting is covered for 12 months. Faults with the products themselves, like a warped door or a broken appliance, sit with the manufacturer’s warranty.
Does using an independent fitter affect my kitchen warranty?
For most brands, no. Manufacturer warranties cover manufacturing faults whoever fits the kitchen. What they don’t cover is damage from poor fitting, which is where our own guarantee comes in. Register your warranty with the brand either way. There’s more detail on our Wren installation page.
Can I book just worktops or just splashbacks?
Yes. Worktop fitting, splashbacks and kitchen removal can all be booked on their own. Please note our minimum project price is £1,000.
You’re in Chiswick. Do you really come to South London?
We simply have a showroom in Chiswick and run all business operations from here. Our kitchen fitters travel all around London and also to Surrey, Kent and Essex. All our teams travel to kitchen installations right across South London, from Battersea to Bromley.
