A Kitchen Project Is More Than Buying a Kitchen
Most people assume the biggest decision is choosing the kitchen itself. Walk into Wren, browse IKEA, order from Howdens — pick your units, choose your finish, place the order. Job done?
Not quite. Buying the kitchen is only the starting point. Between the moment your units are delivered and the moment your kitchen genuinely looks the way you imagined it, there is a long list of trades, decisions, and coordination that no kitchen manufacturer or showroom will handle for you.
It is not a kitchen installation. It is a full renovation project — and most homeowners only realise that once they are already in the middle of it.
What Kitchen Companies Do Not Tell You
Once your kitchen is ordered, you are on your own to organise everything else:
- Removal and disposal of the old kitchen
- Electrical work — new sockets, rewiring, appliance connections
- Gas connections for hobs and cookers
- Plumbing for the sink, dishwasher, and any layout changes
- Worktop templating, supply, and fitting
- Wall tiling and splashbacks
- Flooring throughout the kitchen area
That is typically five or six separate trades — each needing their own quotes, availability windows, and scheduling. Most homeowners spend months coordinating it themselves. The end result usually reflects that.
Why We Started in 2012
When we set up Urban Kitchens, we saw a clear gap in the London market. Homeowners were buying excellent kitchens — from established UK brands like Wren and Howdens, and from quality manufacturers in Germany and Italy — but the process of having them professionally installed was fragmented, stressful, and largely left to chance.
The kitchens were good. The experience of getting them fitted was not.
We built our business around one straightforward principle: be the team that takes the kitchen you have chosen — however and wherever you bought it — and installs it to a standard you are proud of, handling everything else the project requires.

Old Kitchen Removal
Complete strip-out and disposal of your existing kitchen. Space left clean and ready before we start the new installation.
Kitchen Installation
Full fitting of all units, doors, drawers, and hardware from any UK or European brand — Wren, Howdens, IKEA, Magnet, and more.
Electrical Work
Sockets, lighting circuits, extractor wiring, and appliance connections — all completed and certified before handover.
Gas Connections
Gas Safe registered engineers for hob and cooker connections, including any pipework repositioning the new layout requires.
Plumbing
Sink, dishwasher, washing machine connections — plus rerouting where your new layout differs from the old one.
Worktops
Templated on site and fitted in quartz, granite, laminate, or solid wood. Supplied by us or customer-supplied.
Tiling
Splashbacks and full wall tiling. We work with your chosen tiles or advise on options that suit your kitchen.
Flooring
LVT, vinyl, laminate, or tile flooring laid as part of the overall project — not an afterthought handled by someone else.
